Raw milk can be used in place of store-bought milk for anything- enjoy a glass with breakfast, pour over cereal, coffee, pudding, oatmeal, baking, cooking, and the list goes on and on. Here are a few of our favorite recipes:
Chocolate Milk
Add a splash of milk to a mug and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir in 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp honey, a pinch of salt and a dash of vanilla. Microwave again and stir- you should have a thick chocolate syrup. Mix into 1 cup of milk and enjoy!
Hot Chocolate
(Use same ingredients as chocolate milk). Pour milk into a small saucepan over medium heat, add in all other ingredients and whisk until well combined. Try adding in a few drops of peppermint extract for a nice peppermint cocoa, and don’t forget the whipped cream!
Turmeric Latte
Warm 1 cup of milk on the stove in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in 1/4 tsp turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, a dash of cloves, a dash of ginger, a pinch of salt, and 1 tsp of your preferred sweetener (our favorite is maple syrup!). Pour into a mug and sprinkle with more cinnamon. Enjoy!
Milkshake
Add 3 scoops of your favorite ice cream to a blender, pour about 1/4 -1/2 cup of milk over the ice cream and any flavorings you want (vanilla ice cream and maple syrup is absolutely amazing, but try it with peppermint extract, strawberry jam or syrup, peanut butter and banana, or just a bit of chocolate syrup). Blend on low until smooth.
Egg Custard
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Beat 6 eggs, whisk in 4 cups milk, ½ cup sugar, a pinch of salt, and ½ tsp. vanilla. Pour egg mixture into a medium sized oven-proof bowl, and sprinkle with nutmeg or other spices if desired. Place the bowl in a large baking pan and fill the pan with hot water to reach ½ way up the bowl. Bake for 1 hour or until custard is set. Cool completely and enjoy!
Rice Pudding
Bring ½ gallon of milk, 2 cups cream, 1 cup rice and 1 cup sugar to a boil. Turn down the heat and let simmer until rice is tender- about 45 minutes. Place 5 egg yolks and ½ tablespoon of vanilla in a large bowl. Add in about a cup of the hot rice and whisk together. Add the egg mixture back into the pot of rice and return to a boil. Once boiling remove from heat and chill.
