Kefir is great to drink plain, but for those who are not accustomed to the tartness of plain kefir, here are a few different ways you can use it!
Smoothies
In a blender, combine 1 cup of kefir with your choice of fruit (fresh or frozen!). For more added nutrients, try tossing in a handful of spinach.
If you are looking for an extra boost in protein, a scoop of chocolate protein powder, a banana and some peanut butter make for a great breakfast or post workout meal! (You can also substitute baking cocoa in for a lower calorie chocolate peanut butter smoothie, or try using Ovaltine or your choice of chocolate milk powder for a little bit of extra sweetness)
Overnight Oats
In a pint sized mason jar add 1/2 cup oats, about 1 cup kefir (less if you like thicker oats). Give it a good shake and leave in the fridge overnight or at least 3 hours. Top with nuts, peanut butter, fruit, honey, or desired toppings. Note- If using frozen fruit, or any fruit, you can add it the night before and let the flavor infuse into the oats. You can also add a scoop of protein powder if looking for additional protein. My favorite combo: vanilla protein powder, blueberries, and sliced almonds.
